Better hygiene for Sershul
Toilets and showers have been added to
the VISTA building.
The new extension to the Vista Building
With financial support from organizations in Holland, Switzerland and the United Kingdom, we have added toilets and showers to the VISTA building.
Until now, maintaining hygiene in the vocational training centre and hotel has been hard. You had to pump water and carry it to your room, and for a toilet you had two options - use a bucket and empty it outside, or just 'go' outside. There were no flushing toilets in Sershul and no sewerage system. Now that has changed.
The toilets and showers built this summer 2009 serve not just the VISTA building but are available to the general public. Clean hot and cold water is piped into the building and waste is disposed of in an environmentally friendly way. On top of that, two people have a job as cleaners and money charged for using the facilities will help fund VISTA projects. Good news all round!
Improved hygiene opens the way for VISTA to create new projects targeting the sick, the aged and pregnant women.
This project was supported by Wilde Ganzen.
